Dr Nouriel Roubini, the renowned economist who predicted the financial crisis, shares his vision of real estate's role in the global economy.
Looking back to the start of the global financial crisis, the causes seem obvious. It was an accident waiting to happen and one that far more of us perhaps should have predicted. But few can really say, hand on heart, that they saw it coming.
One of the few that did, however – and publicly said so – is MIPIM 2011 keynote speaker Nouriel Roubini. His warnings went unheeded. Roubini had been forecasting a serious financial crisis in the US for years, notably speaking to a sceptical International Monetary Fund (IMF) about his predication in 2006. In fact, his prognostications earned him the epithet Dr Doom, following a profil of the same name in the New York Times.
