Having been a MAPIC first timer myself, I can’t exactly say I was prepared for the whirlwind of goal-driven energy that was found from the moment the doors of the Palais opened this morning. For a moment, I felt like I was back in the arms of my native New York City, where purposeful footsteps are considered normal. But we are in Cannes! And the sun is shining, the weather warmer than a spring day, and the ocean just waiting to be greeted by on-lookers.
I suppose that’s what gives MAPIC its fame. Participants come here clearly seeking dynamic exchanges, innovative recipes for success and business opportunities. I was so fortunate to have sat in on the very sensational Keynote by Robert Tercek, a digital media guru well placed to discuss the future of retail in a digital world. Check out his video conference here!
The conference on Retail in transport hubs was equally interesting, showing the growing potential for retailers, developers and investors (not to mention city planners). Don’t miss the dedicated area with exhibitors from Paris, Italy, Singapore and the UK.
The afternoon opened with a fantastic Keynote by Russia’s Head of Retail from Cushman & Wakefield. Maxim Karbasnikoff delivered a dynamic, well scripted speech that got the packed conference room (standing room only) hanging on to his each and every word. I, for one, was so enchanted that I nearly left my 2 mobile devices behind on the way out. In fact, I did leave them behind…and was lucky to find them 30 minutes later.
Our format sessions were hot today: Power meetings between developers and investors were full, as on-lookers questioned the unique set up, and Speed Matching was alive and kicking, with a full audience as 5 retailers gave their pitches. Grom, apparently the best Gelato in the world, certainly convinced me with a few pictures of their mouth watering store fronts!
And now for some Social Media Fun!
Stand of the Day:
After searching far and wide for the “coolest” stand at MAPIC, I didn’t even hesitate upon seeing Uplace Brussels. Sleek and clean meets modern and hip, with cocktails, unique cuisine, a king size Ipad, and a live DJ to boot! Oh, and did I mention chocolates? Mmmmm. Please check out their stand and take a moment to talk to these delightful group from Belgium.
