MIPIM UK / Estates Gazette Visionary Awards 2016 Winners
VISIONARY BUILDING OF THE YEAR
White Collar Factory, Derwent London
High ceilings. Abundant daylight. Natural ventilation. It’s no wonder that the well-built and adaptable industrial buildings of the past convert so well into modern office workspaces.
At Derwent London, we’ve built our reputation on converting the simple yet generous buildings of the past into inspiring, people-centred spaces for the future. But what if new build offices could be created the same way? Working with architects AHMM and engineers, Arup and AKT II we’ve developed the White Collar Factory concept – revolutionising the workplace, it’s an architectural philosophy that negates the need for excessive and expensive climate control systems through simple sustainability principles that put people in charge of their environment.

VISIONARY ARCHITECT/MASTER PLANNER OF THE YEAR
Founded in 2005, Coffey Architects has built a strong reputation for designing beautifully crafted, intelligent buildings that ingeniously add value for our clients. People, context and light are our driving concerns. Good architecture is measured by its adaptability and response to its context, social life, the people using it and the light that fills it. Our architecture is for people – all people. We want the spaces we design to promote social interaction and set the stage for living, without barriers. In that sense, we are not wedded to any one style but believe in the power of design tailored to need, wish and context. In our hearts, architecture merely frames light both literally and metaphorically. Manipulating it is our starting point for finding elegant answers to our clients’ questions. In this way, we will never abandon beauty in our quest for the functional and pragmatic.
