Retailer of Week: Zadig et Voltaire

We’re pleased to welcome our Retailer of the Week: Zadig et Voltaire, a French luxury clothing brand specialising in women’s and men’s “prêt-à-porter” (“ready-to-wear”) clothing & accessories. They have a clothing range for kids as well. Their headquarters are situated in Paris (France).

Zadig et Voltaire’s Story

“The original idea behind Zadig et Voltaire is to create a new luxury”.

Zadig & Voltaire was created in 1997 by Thierry Gillier, the co-founder of the company Lacoste. The brand’s name was inspired by the French novel “Zadig ou la Destinée” (written by Voltaire). They decided to choose the “rive gauche” of Paris known for its chic boutiques – Saint-Germain-des-Prés –  for their first store.

At the beginning, Zadig & Voltaire was dedicated only to women, however, in 2004, they launched men’s clothing & accessories collections and in 2006 started selling clothing for kids.

Their main products are easily identifiable for their casual rock style with customized prints and materials known for their delicacy and originality (for instance, feather cashmere or linen jersey). Some models have become the emblems of the brand, such as T-shirts with Tunisian collar, teddy boots or rock wallet.

Not only do they offer stylish clothing collections, but accessory lines as well – watches, bags and shoes.

In 2008, the collection deluxe was created. In the same year, they created the independent music label Zadig & Voltaire.  One year later, they launched a collection of sunglasses and in 2012, started selling the parfum “Tome 1 la pureté”.

In the 2000s, they expanded to the Asian continent by opening new shops in Korea and China. In 2006, the luxury clothing brand conquered the Japanese market. The subsidiary Zadig & Voltaire Japon was created just afterwards. In 2008, they launched their shops in Hong Kong. In 2006, it was  the turn of such European fashion capitals as London and  Milan. The same year, Los Angeles (USA) and – in 2009 a few shops in New York.

They are heading to MAPIC this November in order to showcase their brand and present their expansion plans. Don’t miss them at MAPIC this November!
